People ask me often. What is website search engine optimization? They also ask if it helps. Well, the short answer is yes it helps tremendously. Learning about search engine optimization for your website is crucial to getting ranked on google.
How does search engine optimization help?
Think about how you found this article. Either you follow me on social media and saw the link there, or you searched for specific keywords on google or maybe bing, and this article popped up. That is how search engine optimization helps. Learning about SEO is key to success. Let me explain.
So you have a website, and you need traffic. There are a few ways to get it.
- Post on social media and hope the algorithm likes you
- Run PPC ads on social media or search engines.
- Optimize your website search engine optimization and get ranked in the search engines.
Posting on social media is essential as well but not because it will generate a ton of traffic. More because it is part of creating backlinks to your site adding to your SEO. Pay-Per-Click or PPC ads are ok but do not usually convert well unless you have the best opening in your content most people will read a few lines and leave. PPC ads are more for funnel-type models as they are designed to grab people’s attention quickly. That leaves us with SEO.
What is website search engine optimization?
Simply put website SEO is optimizing your page for search engines like google to believe it is worth putting at the top of their list. Google, as well as other search engines, crawl the internet looking for every website there is. Then they rank those websites by keywords and phrases based on an algorithm that decides which websites are best to show searchers. Google wants the best content to show up first so that people are happy with the results and therefore keep searching on their search engine.
Think about it this way. If you searched for ‘how to build a garage?’ and the websites that were on the first page were a bunch of articles that were written badly and didn’t give you the information. Would you use that search engine again? Probably not. This is why SEO is important. By making your content relevant and readable you are showing Google they can feel safe putting your article at the top of their rankings and people will be happy. Which keeps them searching and possibly clicking on ads which makes them money.
Why is SEO the best option for getting traffic?
First, let me say that SEO is a long-term fight. With the internet saturated with all kinds of info, it takes time for google to determine if you are better than the others. That being said working hard to make every article relevant and informative is well worth it. Once you get ranked onto page 1 organic traffic flows freely. You don’t need to pay for anything which means you get all the money you make without portioning it out for ads.
Also, it is completely passive. Once you write an article and optimize it you are hands-off and google does the rest. Unlike PPC campaigns which require constant monitoring, you gain traffic organically and as more of your content makes it onto Google’s first page you gain authority and your new content gets ranked faster.
Where can you learn more about Search Engine Optimization?
Learning about SEO is simply a matter of searching for information on google. However, there are more efficient ways.
- Find a training program online. I actually have a review of the training I used and it really helped me not just with SEO but with hosting and research as well.
- If you are using WordPress download AIO SEO. All-in-One SEO is a great tool that will give you live feedback as you are writing on your blog.
- If you know someone who has a successful website see if they will mentor you.
I learned most of my SEO strategies from the training program at Wealthy Affiliate. I also learned more from AIO SEO. The two combined are what led me to have an SEO score above 80% on most of my articles.
It is time to tie it all together. You can run an affiliate business on youtube or social media without ever having a website. It is more work but it is doable. But, why would you? With a little more time in setup, you could have a website that you can build on over time. It may take a bit longer to get that organic traffic coming in but when you do you can sit back and watch your affiliate sales go up. Write 1 or 2 articles a week to keep your site fresh and the rest of the time you are hands-off.
Then you simply monetize your website with ads and affiliate links and watch the money start rolling in. You can still run a few ad campaigns to try to attract more people but your main focus is SEO.
